PAUL E NELSON

Brenda Hillman reads at Open Books tomorrow at 3p and I first met her at Open Books in 2010, I think it was. She has just completed her tetralogy of meditations on the elements, ending up with Seasonal Works with Letters on Fire.

I had the good fortune to facilitate a November 2011 visit of Brenda to SPLAB when we had our venue in Columbia City. I found her to be an aware, kind, gentle and incredibly perceptive human and poet and look forward to her reading tomorrow. There are those more familiar with her famous poet husband’s work, but I love her weirdnesses, her non-linear leaps and her notion of giving one’s self permission to be weird. Aren’t we all weird in our own way? Few have the courage to act and reflect our own weirdness and do it not for the sake of evasion, but to give us a glimpse of their deeper selves. Brenda is one.

The link to my November 2011 interview with her is HERE. And I could not resist posting this photo again. (See below.) See you tomorrow and buy a book for God’s sake.
