PAUL E NELSON

Thanks to the efforts of Ed Varney, I’ll give a short reading at ARTFUL Gallery in Courtenay, BC on Sunday, August 28th at 7pm. (526C Cumberland Road.) There will be open mic and there is a suggested donation of $10. The number of poetry readings in Cascadia has yet to recover from the pandemic and I am going to be spending some time in Nuchatlitz, BC, thanks to Adelia MacWilliam, so this reading gives me a chance to see poet friends on the island and hang out.

I’ll read a few poems from the new book Haibun de la Serna. Did you see the review Pablo Baler wrote for Exacting Clam? Amazing. I may also read some recent postcard poems, American Sentences and poems from the series FLEXIBLE MIND, some of which will be in the Cascadian Zen anthology coming out in Fall 2023.

I may also connect in BC with participants in my online workshop, starting a third year of sessions this Fall. See the page linked at this wonderful and goofy image Roberta Hoffman created for the course:

Weird thing about the UFO is that I am going to facilitate versions of this workshop in Fall 2022 in West Seattle (thanks to Koon Woon) and Des Moines (thanks to Ashley Young & Barbara McMichael) and in Des Moines there was apparently a famous UFO sighting memorialized in a mural downtown:

Hopefully we’ll not experience a flight of the navigator this October in Des Moines. Hit me up if you want more info on the workshops, online or in person. I am grateful to 4Culture for helping to fund the in-person workshops this fall.
