Call for Poems/Prose/Art
I hope this finds you well despite this troubling political time. In response, the editors of the Winter in America anthology series are building a literary and artistic community of vibrant resistance. Please consider submitting to the second print edition of our anthology of poetry, prose art, or cross-genre work, including links to performances, sound, and videos—Winter in America (Still—to be published by the midterm elections.
Explore our website for information about the first edition, Winter in America (Again: Poets Respond to 2024 Election (Carbonation Press) published on Inauguration Day 2025—a great success, featuring the work of about 100 poets who responded to our call within 3 weeks of the 2024 election. Then submit here by February 28, 2026.
We want strong, reflective—not reactive–work in response to the political crisis originating in the U.S. since the 2025 Inauguration. We hope to expand the resistance by publishing across differences of aesthetics, identity, region, and topic.
The website documents our many events in Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Sacramento, Tucson, Boulder, Canada, San Juan Islands, etc., with related media.
We are 4 co-editors: allia abdullah-matta, Paul E. Nelson, Roxi Power, and Katie Sarah Zale. We’ll conduct a series of 4 submission workshops highlighting our editorial diversity–which we hope leads to a diverse collection of work.
You may also purchase the book here. Bookmarks with more information will be printed soon.
If you know of other writers or artists whose work aligns with our project, please share the website or this Call. Feel free to contact us at winterinamericaeditors@gmail.com with any questions.
