With my friend, the poet Samar Abulhassan, I’ll be typing spontaneous poems on demand for people attending the Seattle Art Museum’s popular Remix, Friday, March 29, 2024 from 7-10pm. Really, this should be epic. & if you have not seen the current exhibit with Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, or the Calder exhibit, they are highly recommended. From SAM:
SAM Remix returns to the Seattle Art Museum this spring! Since 2008, SAM has invited the best and brightest of Seattle’s creative community to produce one-of-a-kind art experiences at this signature nighttime program. This edition—themed *•.¸♡ Crush ♡¸.•*—plays on the excitement and potential that comes with meeting new people. Whether it’s a serendipitous connection, a meet-cute, or the start of a cherished friendship, this edition of SAM Remix is our love letter to Seattle. Visitors will encounter innovative performances, art-making activities, live music, and guided gallery tours inspired by the themes, motifs, and images found across exhibitions including Jaune Quick-to-See Smith: Memory Map, Calder: In Motion, The Shirley Family Collection, and more. Galleries will be accessible from 7–10 pm. Programming and activities will continue in the Brotman Forum until 11 pm. Tickets for SAM members are $25 and $50 for the general public. Don’t delay—get your tickets before they sell out at visitsam.org/remix.
I could write an American Sentence for you, a Cinquain, or something more complex. Just give me a few luminous details to start with and you never know what can happen. I have not attended Remix, but was asked to write some poems and ordered a new Royal Classic manual for the occasion. See you at SAM, March 29, 7pm.
I am looking for a typewriter poet for an event next month in Federal Way. Can you help me?
Lisa – Paul is terrific and I’m a big fan, but if he isn’t available I also wanted you to know that Alexandria Manalo has done many typewriter poet events for Pacific Bonsai Museum and she lives in Federal Way. You can find her at https://www.facebook.com/Alexandria.beget.manalo/
Barbara!
Cinquains:
little more than
arranging syllables,
noting key luminous details
in song.
Yes, what is the date?
Paul, you and your poet buddy Samar are going to be a big hit at the SAM ReMix! I know your American Sentences are a fun and obvious offer – but a cinquain? Or “something more complex” in the midst of all that hubbub? Very ambitious, but I have no doubt you are going to knock it out of the ballpark!!!
