I am grateful to Saundra Fleming for inviting me to be part of an art exhibit at the Kirkland Arts Center entitled Contemporary Reliquaries. If you have a predilection for religion, you may know A receptacle, such as a coffer or shrine, for keeping or displaying sacred relics.

What is MY sacred relic? Mapes Creek, of course. (dxʷwuqʷəb). On Friday night (Aug 21) we’ll meet at the place the creek finds daylight again in Be’er Sheva Park at 6pm for a talk about how we could daylight as much of the creek as possible. Logan McClish will be our featured speaker. He daylights creeks for a living. This is part of the Rainier Beach Action Coalition’s Arts & Culture roundtable, which happens monthly.

On Saturday night (Aug 22) at 6pm I will be part of the Contemporary Reliquaries exhibit at the Kirkland Arts Center, 620 Market Street in Kirkland where I will read part of my poem for the creek. Will you come say hello on either occasion?

When we start treating the place where we live with reverence, we find that life becomes more grounded, more joyous. Help us celebrate that this weekend.
