PAUL E NELSON

Bill Porter with Paul E Nelson, Your Humble NarratorThe last time we reported on Bill Porter (aka: Red Pine) we had traveled to his Port Townsend home for an interview. See: https://paulenelson.com/2019/10/14/red-pine-bill-porter-interview/

Now he’s the subject of a documentary film: DANCING WITH THE DEAD: Red Pine and the Art of Translation. It will be screening in Seattle April 21:

Red Pine Documentary Screening

Red Pine is one of at least three translators of Asian poetry and wisdom traditions to settle in Port Angeles. Mike O’Connor and Sam Hamill are the other two and all three have work in our anthology Cascadian Zen Volume I: Bioregional Writings on Cascadia Here and Now. Bill has had quite a life, going from son of a bank robber to beloved translator of Chinese texts. He’s taught millions of Chinese people about their own ancient culture and this movie promises to be fascinating. See what the Port Townsend Leader says here.
